At age 63, and living with Parkinson’s disease for over 8 years, Mike Solomons has decided to take on an extraordinary challenge: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world, to raise funds for Parkinson’s research.
Together with his son Joel (32), Mike will attempt to summit the 5,895-metre peak as part of a fundraising initiative called “Peak for Parkinson’s.”
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition affecting millions of people worldwide. While treatments exist to help manage symptoms, there is currently no cure.
Through their climb, Mike and Joel hope to raise funds to support research aimed at improving treatments and accelerating the search for a cure.
Please donate generously.
Mike is a retired business professional and has a passion for sport & travel. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018, but instead of slowing down he chose to fight it by continuing to pursue his interests and taking on new adventures.
Mike and his wife, Lianne, have been married for 38 years. Having raised their family in Sydney, Australia, they relocated to Israel in 2023 with their family dog, Willow. In addition to their son Joel, who still lives in Sydney, Mike and Lianne have a daughter Rachel, who lives in Texas, USA, with her husband, Josh.
Joel is currently studying Psychology at the University of Sydney with a minor in neuroscience. He has a keen interest in the outdoors and enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and climbing.
For Joel, this is deeply personal - it's a chance to support and stand alongside his father during the climb and to help drive meaningful impact in the fight against Parkinson’s.
